professional development grants

Cal/West Educators Placement is devoted to matching qualified educators with appropriate openings as administrators and teachers in West Coast independent and private schools. As a way of expressing our appreciation and support to the schools and candidates with whom we work, we are continuing a program of financial assistance to help teachers, administrators, and other school personnel attend Professional Development workshops, conferences, classes, and other events which they might otherwise be unable to attend due to financial constraints. Cal/West Professional Development Grants are limited to a minimum of $200 and a maximum of $1,000 each. Awards may be for the full amount requested or a partial sum, and may cover some or all of a program’s costs. The applicants school is expected to cover some of the program costs.

Requirements

  1. Applicants must be employees of independent or private schools in California or neighboring states.
    1. An application must be completed. The application can be downloaded and printed from our web site at grantapp.CalWestEducators.com.
  2. The application must be co-signed by the Head of School or the Division Head of the applicant's school.
  3. Grants can be paid only to a school, or an educational program or entity, and may only be used for the purpose stated in the application. Financial recipients will be responsible for tax consequences, if any.

Grant applicants may submit a letter of support from the Head of School, Department Head, or other appropriate individual. This is not a requirement.

Professional Development Grants will be made on the basis of demonstrated need, qualifications and goals of the applicant, proposed use of the funds, and available funding. Awards may be for the full amount requested or a partial sum to supplement other available funds.

Final grant decisions will be made by the Cal/West Educators Placement senior staff, with advice and input from a volunteer committee of qualified educators. Cal/West will attempt to award as many grants as possible given available funding. The grants program may be renewed, suspended, or re-opened from time to time. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will be able to fund all requests that we receive.

Deadlines
It is anticipated that Professional Development Grants will be awarded approximately 4 times per year on a "rolling" basis. Applicants are urged to submit their applications as early as possible, with a lead time of at least 6 weeks before a final decision is needed. However, there will be times when it may take longer to reach a decision on applications. We will make our best effort to provide applicants with decisions as soon as possible.
